Getting to the next level is hard to do in this day and age. Colleges aim to get the best of the best for their athletic programs and one seniors is now going to that next level. Corey Conroy made her verbal commitment to the Truman State Bulldogs Swim and Dive Team.
At last year’s state meet, Conroy swam the freestyle leg of the 10th place 200 yard medley relay, was a member of the 14th place 400 freestyle relay, and helped anchor the 200 yard freestyle relay to a 12th place finish. Individually, she tied for 29th in the 50 yard freestyle.
Despite her history of success, being a collegiate athlete had not always been one of her future objectives.
“I wasn’t really planning on swimming in college until I found Truman,” Conroy said.
She visited the campus and said she liked the feel of the school and what she saw there.
“I talked to the coach and he said that the team is really close knit and they were looking for people who would fit in well with the team,” Conroy said.
Conroy said that it will be fun to be a Bulldog, but she hopes she does not have to go alone. Senior Ally Neumann, one of her closest friends, has also looked into swimming at Truman.
“It would be nice to have someone close to me to be there and to share the experience with,” Conroy said.
