A little known course “Work Experience,” offers seniors a chance to prepare for their futures.
“It’s a class designed to assist students in transitioning to the real world,” Special Education Resource teacher Mr. Todd Beffa said.
The class which helps students earn enough credits to graduate, teaches students skills pertinent to college such as how to appropriately complete a college application.
“If you’re a senior and don’t have enough credits to graduate, you get to take this class to get your credits up,” senior Allen Stiles said.
Another major aspect of the class is teaching about business through mock interviews and phone calls.
“It teaches you about business, interviews, and how to do calls on the phone. We practice phone calls and real interviews, what to wear and not to wear,” Stiles said.
During the year-long class, Beffa gives presentations but also allows students time to work on their own. The class, which currently has only five students, helps out around the school by cleaning the cafeteria. Beffa believes by helping around the school, students gain job experience.
“My favorite part is being with the greatest teacher Mr. Beffa and having the experience of doing interviews, learning, and helping people,” Stiles said.
