At the Conference swim meet on November 1st, the boys swim team won the meet for the fourth straight year. The team had three individuals senior Nick Orf, senior Brandon Weissman, junior Zach Rogers each winning two events and the part of the winning 200 free and 400 free relays which picked up points. This includes the 500 free in which Orf broke the school record by swimming it in 4:33.58.
“It means a lot to me that all my hard work has finally paid off,” Orf said. “I’ve had my sights set on a few of the freestyle records since the end of last year when I realized I was pretty close.”
The team won again with strong swimming as they started behind already not having divers competing and losing out on a chance for early points. Swimmers on various relays like junior Natsu Gavin who succeeded in making a state time.
“I was nervous for my races,” junior Natsu Gavin said, “On one hand, I was trying to get my state cut, on the other hand I needed to do well to score points for my team,”
The meet was close the whole way, but on the last relay race the boys won the race and the meet with the foursome of Orf, Weissman, Rogers and junior Riley Brown winning the 400 free relay with a time of 3:22.32 and beating Parkway West by 9 points in the meet.
“We knew we could pull off the win, but we couldn’t make any mistakes,” Orf said “we all stepped up even though we were tired and did what needed to do to win that relay which put us in the lead and secured our title.”
