Varsity soccer won its sectional game against Ladue 1-0 with a game winning penalty kick by Ben Mendel with one second left on the clock on Nov. 6.
This was his second game winning goal in the playoffs this year after scoring in the second overtime against Parkway West in the district championship.
In the second half Senior Goalie Andrew Chekadanov only had to make a few saves, but he made them when they counted.
After Mendel’s game winning goal he did a double knee slide as the rest of his teammates piled on top of him in celebration.
“It is always fun to celebrate after a great win, that never gets old,” said Mendel.
Junior Ryan Leven was awarded the “Golden Boot” by his coaches for his outstanding defense and also for drawing the foul to earn the penalty kick.
The team plays saturday at St. Dominic in the state quarterfinals.
