In their second game of the season, girl’s Varsity basketball played Parkway North. The final score of the game was a 63-51 loss. The top scorer of the game was junior Zoe Wallis with 20 points. Although the team suffered their second loss of the season in this game, Wallis sees growth in the team.
“It was a pivotal point in our season because we started to realize our real potential. We all had our heads in the game,” Wallis said.
Communication was present throughout the game, but the flaws in communication led to nineteen turnovers.
As for the future, some key players to look out for are sophomore Melanie Wasserman and senior captains Alyssa Waitz and Chelsy Gibson.
“Keep a watch for Melanie Wasserman. Although only a sophomore, she brings a lot of potential for our team and creates a lot of good things on the court. Our captains, Alyzza Waitz and Chelsy Gibson, are also among our top performers,” Wallis said.
Wasserman also uses a unique method of blocking throw-ins, screaming and shouting to distract the opposing player. Waitz and Gibson keep the team focused and look out for other players as they run water to their teammates between quarters. Wallis offered some insight into the next time the Colts face the Vikings.
“I hope that the next time we play North there will be a different outcome, but even if there isn’t, we know we put our hearts and souls in this game and left it all on the court,” Wallis said.
