After defeating Parkway North in their own packed house, Varsity boy’s basketball matched up against two of the strongest teams in the area, St. Charles (12-6) and Rockwood Summit (12-4).
On Tuesday Jan. 15, the Colts matched up at home with St. Charles in which they lost 58-51. Poor shooting throughout the game and defense in the fourth quarter doomed the Colts. St. Charles guard, sophomore Casey Teson, helped down the Colts with 27 points, on 10-13 overall shooting while hitting all of his 2 pointers.
For the Colts, junior Nathan Biggs scored 19 points while junior Connor Kraus chipped in with 10 points.
Friday’s game at Central brought forth a large crowd dressed appropriately for the themed white-out night against Summit. Summit’s Jory Woodson leads the conference with 19 points per game and put up 17 points for Rockwood Summit as the Falcons defeated the Colts 61-51.
“Jory’s confidence seemed to make him so good,” junior Kyle Disch said. He only shot 7-19 for the game, but his ability to keep shooting helped him succeed.”
The Colts came out sluggish in the first quarter getting outscored 16-6 and going into halftime down nine, 30-21. After struggling in the third quarter, the Colts were poised to make a run in the fourth, at one time cutting the deficit to six points. They were sparked by the new starter, Disch who was 2-2 on three pointers and finished with 10 points.
“I’ve just tried to take my shot when I’m open’ and I’ve started to get some more confidence,” Disch said.
In the end though, 20 turnovers doomed the home team, making it impossible to rally.
“Losing to Summit hurt because it was a game that we should’ve won,” junior Nathan Biggs said. “It’s hard to win a game that you start out slow in.”
The Colts started games in the Ameritime Tourney at Missouri Baptist University, and are 1-1 so far, losing to Borgia on Monday and defeating Parkway South Wednesday on a game winning shot by sophomore Jarrett Cox-Bradley.
“We came out slow again against Borgia, so the win against Parkway South was a good way to hopefully get back on the winning track,” Biggs said.
Biggs led the varsity squad against South with 16 points, while senior Andrew Chekadanov and Cox-Bradley contributed with 15 points apiece. Even though, they had twice as many turnovers as Parkway South 53% shooting for the game helped deliver a win.
Central is set to play at 5:30 against Lafayette at Missouri Baptist on Friday Jan. 25.
