Senior goalie Andrew Chekadanov returned from Indianapolis over the weekend of Jan. 19-21 with an All-American award and a great experience.
“It was just a good time seeing a bunch of other good soccer players at the ceremonies,” Chekadanov said.
He went to Indianapolis with his sister and his coaches Mr. Brian Adam, Mr. John Theobald and Mr. David Cummins.
“I wouldn’t have gotten these awards without them. It was really nice to share the moment with (my coaches),” Chekadanov said.
Chekadanov worked hard in the off-season and throughout the season as well to make himself better.
“Well it’s awesome as a testament to Chek and his abilities,” Coach Brian Adam said.
His hard work and dedication paid off during the season as the team won districts and sectionals.
“I feel pretty honored. It’s a big deal; I think I am only the second person to receive the award from this school,” Chekadanov said.”It definitely feels good to be recognized.”
Chekadanov decided to play exclusively goalie late in his high school career as a junior. This late commitment made it harder for colleges to see his talents. Adam said he would like Chekadanov to continue playing soccer past high school.
“I would love to see him continue to play. He got into playing keeper late and hopefully some colleges will figure out that he will be a great find,” Adam said.
Chekadanov also got the honor to receive his award from Julie Foudy, who was captain of the Women’s USA national team from 2000-04.
“I will probably remember the good times we had laughing at the luncheon,” Chekadanov said.
Chekadanov spent the rest of his weekend in Indianapolis spending time with his sister.
He left Indianapolis with an official All-American certificate and an Adidas All-American Jacket.
