After winning its first District title since 1999, the Parkway Central girls varsity basketball team was looking to make school history, and there was no other way to accomplish this without the help of 6’3” junior Zoe Wallis.
Wallis was coming off one of her best games of the season against rival Parkway North. She put up a season high 26 points, shooting 12-20 from the floor and 2-3 from the line. She also put up 14 defensive rebounds and five offensive rebounds. Wallis also added four blocks to her night, as she ended the heavily favored Vikings season.
“Going into the game we knew North would be our biggest game, especially since it was Districts,” Wallis said. “We just went out as a team and played like it was all of our last game and put everything on the line. Winning districts was my favorite memory of playing varsity basketball because it was only the second one in school history.”
Unfortunately for the Colts, their season ended on March 6 with a loss to the Parkway South Patriots, 47-50. Wallis was able to put up noteworthy numbers once again, but it was not enough to push the girls deeper into the tournament. She had 18 points, shooting 4-16 from the field and 10-11 from the line. Wallis also led the game in rebounding with twelve defensive and two offensive boards and had a game high eight blocks.
