After starting the season off with a 8-3 record, Parkway Central’s varsity baseball team is beginning to impress their competition. The team secured a Suburban South Conference Tournament championship with a win over the Parkway West Longhorns in walk off fashion, which came off of the bat of junior Brantley Lohkamp.
After defeating Kirkwood 6-5 on Friday and then Webster Groves 12-2 in the semifinals, the Colt’s found themselves in the championship game against the rival Longhorns. The Colt’s had a commanding 5-2 lead going into the top of the seventh, where they gave up three runs and found themselves in a tie game. After a one out single by senior Matt Hresko, and a timely error which allowed Hresko to reach third, Lohkamp found himself up to bat with the tying run 90 feet away. He was able to drive home the winning run on a grounder to the third basemen, giving the Colt’s the victory.
“I was excited because I was put in a situation to win it for my team, but it was my teammates who put me in that situation,” Lohkamp said.
A huge part of the Colt’s success offensively has came off of the bat of Lohkamp. He is leading all starters in batting average at .379, on base percentage at .514, and runs batted in with 15. He is also the only starter so far this year to have only struck out once.
