As Parkway Central football turns the page to the 2013 season, they have decided to turn the page on uniforms as well.
Central football has sent last years Russell jerseys down to the freshman team and have unveiled Nike uniforms for the varsity team, the first uniform change since 2004.
Senior quarterback Zack Lazenby, who was one of the captains in charge of designing the uniforms, says that they are a big improvement.
“They are Nike so the material is a lot lighter and more comfortable, we also have new Nike pants to compliment the jerseys.” Lazenby said. “I think it was time for them [the new uniforms]. A lot of other teams in the area were getting Nike jerseys so we had to stay with the trend.”
With all of the new looks, a possible downside for fans this year is that there are no names on the back of the jerseys anymore.
“Before, each year, we would buy new (of the same) jerseys so the kids would be able to put their names on the back,” Varsity head coach Mark Goldenberg said. “With Nike we have to keep the uniforms for two to three years.”
Fans will be able to see the Colts in action with their new Nike uniforms as they open the regular season on Friday night. They will be hosting the Ladue Rams with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
