We all know that there have been many changes to the counseling department, but many of us won’t recognize the new faces in the building. Ms. Flagg, the new counselor for last names A-E, hopes to reach out and get to know students and begin building relationships here at Central.
After working for seven years at Parkway Northeast Middle as a counselor, Ms. Flagg accepted the job at Central with hopes of learning new things and challenging herself to grow in her career. Her role here will include scheduling, helping students choose courses to fulfil their graduation requirements, and counseling students.
However, this is nothing new for Ms. Flagg. She has worked as a comprehensive counselor for many years, helping students manage mental and emotional stress. Although she is in a new school with new responsibilities, she emphasized that her role is the same as it has always been: to support the students. In the high school setting, she thinks she will be able to work more one-on-one with students and is looking forward to more mature conversations with her students.
Although Ms. Flagg comes to us with lots of experience, there are some adjustments she had to make since taking on her new job. In terms of her curriculum knowledge, she has had to start over and learn what the Central course guide has to offer. She also mentioned that she has a lot to learn about graduation and graduation requirements. And of course, everyone new to Central must learn their way around the halls. She admits that sometimes even she still carries a map!
This year, Ms. Flagg is most excited about all the new experiences Central has to offer her. In addition to the changes in her responsibility, she hopes to go to football games to cheer on central insead of north for a change.. As she continues to write her dissertation for her phd in counselor education and supervision, she plans on taking the time to immerse herself in the PCH community. So take the time to get to know her, too. Even if she won’t be working with you directly the future, you should take the time to stop by Ms. Flagg’s office. She’s a great resource and easy to talk to. I’m sure she would appreciate your warm welcomes to the community.
