With the Missouri Tigers starting the season off at 5-0, mixed feelings have arisen about the Tigers success.
“Of course I’m upset,” junior James Burns said. “They are ranked and don’t deserve to be because they haven’t played any good teams.”
The Tigers first 5 games consisted of Murray State, Toledo, and Arkansas State at home; and with Indiana and Vanderbilt on the road. The Tigers averaged scoring 46.6 points per game and allowing only 22.4 points per game. However, the teams the Tigers have played teams who have a combined record of only 15-13, throughout 6 weeks of football.
“Mizzou has done what they needed to do,” sophomore Tyler Rosen. “It will be a real test these next few weeks to see how good they really are.”
Sophomore Austin Rader believes this years team will be one of the best football teams the Tigers have had the past decade. He doesn’t think it will be as good as the ‘07 or ‘10 years, where there was a combined record of 22-5, but definitely up there.
“To see a team go from 5-7 one year to beginning the year 5-0 is phenomenal,” Rader said. “The team is coming off a bad year, and with every win they get better and more confident, which I believe is why they are successful.”
This saturday, the Tigers take on the 7th ranked team in the nation, Georgia, at Georgia. So far, the Georgia Bulldogs is 4-1, but they have played the current 3rd, 10th, and 14th ranked teams in the nation, and have lost to the number 3 team. Missouri currently averages 7 more points than their opponents, but the Tigers have definitely not played at the same skill level as Georgia. A sign of hope for the Tigers is that the Bulldogs have their top 2 wide receivers hurt, as well has their best running back, a starting safety, and their punter.
“I know for a fact that we will do just fine on offense,” Rader said. “But if our defense doesn’t come to play, then we don’t stand a chance no matter whose injured.”
The Tigers have been chosen as one of the upset alerts on ESPN for this Saturday, so some college football experts believe that the Tigers do mean business.
