10/29 Freshmen Rebecca Davis and Elana Wilner competed in the MSHAA class two state tournament. The freshmen lost to Jefferson City in the first round but went on to beat Kickapoo. In the duo’s final match the fell to St. Joesph.
10/15 The girls tennis team is currently wrapping up an extremely successful season. The team defeated Francis Howell North to win team districts, which means they are now on to sectionals this weekend. On Thursday, October 14th, freshman pair of Rebecca Davis and Elena Wilner defeated Incarnate Word and the team of Chen and Karu lost to Incarnate Word.
For senior Melinda Lai, her high school tennis career has come to and end.
“It’s been a fun season,” Lai said.
Winning sectionals, Davis and Wilner have qualified for state and will now progress to play among the best in Missouri. Both are excited to advance and to have had such a successful first year of high school tennis.
10/1 As the regular season comes to a close, girls tennis beat Parkway North 10-1 on the 19th. The first round of Conference Tournament was on the 23rd where they won 9-6. Then, on the 25th, led by Elena Wilner’s consistent play in both doubles and singles, they competed in the finals of conference and won 5-2 giving them the conference title. After the team wraps up the season on Friday, they are off to districts.
9/17 Monday, varsity girls tennis secured a win against Cor Jesu, while JV lost. Tuesday, varsity won and JV lost to Rockwood Summit. Wednesday the teams play Marquette, Thursday they travel to Parkway North, and Friday they travel to Lindbergh. Many of the standout players are freshmen, with the top two players being freshmen Elena Wilner and Rebecca Davis.
Senior Melinda Lai highlights the young talent on varsity, as well as accrediting JV players with major improvement.
“There are a bunch of freshmen on varsity this year that are all playing super well. And a lot of the girls on JV have come a long way too,” Lai said.
