The girls swim team began their season this year with a new, but familiar, head coach. Science teacher Ms. Jennifer Meyers began her first year as head coach for the team after helping out as assistant coach in years past.
“I’m excited to be head coach this year because these girls have a lot of talent,” Meyers said. “There is definitely a lot of potential this year.”
Meyers said that one of the key differences this year will be the formation of the team. The attendance policy will be more enforced this year and the practices will be more structured. Meyers plans to have regular swimming time Tuesdays-Fridays, while spending Mondays and Saturdays in the weight room.
“The athletes are expected to hold above almost everything,” Meyers said. “Besides family, school, or religion, swimming should be a very high priority for them.”
As of Nov. 21, there are 40 girls swimming and five girls diving. Although the size makes for crowded lanes, senior captain Allison Bain says that many girls are promising swimmers, including new freshmen and returning swimmers.
“We have a good chunk of stand-out swimmers this year,” Bain said. “Hopefully we will be able to add more people to the amount of state competitors t
his year.”
