In the season opener for the varsity boys basketball team, the Colts outscored the Parkway South Patriots 25-7 in the fourth quarter en route to a 69-54 victory. Seniors Nathan Biggs, Connor Kraus, Nick Helmbacher, and Junior Jarrett Cox-Bradley all ended the game with double digit scoring, with Biggs leading the way with 20 points.
“It felt great,” Biggs said. “I love that when I came out slow, I had my team to turn to to pick me up and could finish with a strong game. We won this game because we played like a team and was able to frustrate [Parkway] South who turned on each other when we started to play better.”
New addition to the team, junior Risaan McKenney who transfered over from Riverview Gardens, added some key defensive contributions which helped the Colts break out their fastbreak offense.
“He [McKenney] has a good handle on the ball and he’s a good passer, but most importantly he’s a great defender,” Biggs said. “He gets in the head of the point guard on the other team.”
The boys varsity basketball team returns to action Wednesday with their home opener against Parkway West, with tip off scheduled for 7 p.m.
