Prom is a fantastic opportunity to spend one final night together as a senior class before going our separate ways next year. We have one final opportunity to rally together in an act of class spirit.
Every senior should be in attendance at prom this year. It doesn’t make sense to have this final school event without our entire grade. Sure, we have graduation, but prom is that stereotypical high school event that so many of us look forward to.
I believe prom has the ability to be the magical night for the class of 2014, but without promotion, many who do not have dates will end up not going due to fear of showing up without a date. Our school is so focused on the concept of having a date that we forget the real purpose of prom: having fun with your friends. If we could somehow manage to have everyone forget about dates and just go as friends it would be a magical night.
Needless to say, those of us who have been to prom know how amazing of a dance it is. It’s the only dance where people aren’t dancing around awkward. Rather, everyone is just having fun with their friends and enjoying the good music. Having our entire senior class together will just make the night that much better.
It is up to the school to push seniors to go to prom with their friends or just even as the senior class so that we can have this final opportunity to wear tuxes and dresses and dance under the skylight.
