Junior Kate McNeal spent her time lifeguarding at Westbury Manor Pool over the summer in order to make money.
“I enjoyed lifeguarding, although it can be really boring and stressful at times,” said Kate.
Kate explained that kids often think of themselves as better swimmers than they really are. A girl decided to remove her floaties without supervision, and Kate was left in a sticky situation.
“Her mom told her she needed to stay on the stairs while she was drying off, but of course she decided to try to swim,” she said.
Kate was very nervous watching this play out, knowing that she could easily drown, not knowing how to swim. Thankfully, the girl was just fine, and Kate continued to do her job.
