Senior Kyla Gersten is a leader in several organizations in her Jewish community.
She is the President of B’nai Amoona United Synagogue Youth (BAUSY), her Jewish youth group chapter.
“BAUSY has been a huge part of my life for all of high school,” Gersten said. “It’s so nice to be in charge of it now and have the opportunity to make it as good as it can be for the younger members.”
Her responsibilities as chapter president are wide ranging, from leading board meetings to planning programs and events.
Gersten also serves as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Jewish Light Ohr Chadash page, which is a teen page in the newspaper of the St. Louis Jewish community. The page has a staff of 20 high school age writers and editors. They go to print monthly in the the Jewish Light in addition to maintaining an online presence on stlouisjewishlight.com and social media outlets like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
As Co-Editor-in-Chief, Gersten must lead monthly staff meetings, edit articles, do design and layout of the page, and make sure that every aspect of the page is in order.
