Along with multiple science classes in her course load, sophomore Abby Brand is a part of the explorers program at St. Luke’s. The explorer program allows students to learn about different parts of the medical field. Often these lessons come straight from doctors and specialists.
“It’s an hour and a half and or the first 15 or 20 minutes a doctor or nurse talk about the field they specialize in,” Brand said, “it offers a lot of insights into the different jobs at a hospital or in the medical field.”
The explorer program also allows students to gain real world experience and see how what they learn in school applies in the real world.
“They take you up to their floor and show you how all the equipment works, and sometimes they use it on you if you volunteer,” Brand said.
