A new school record in the 5k was run by senior cross country runner Charlie McIntyre on Oct 8 at McNair Park.
“I knew as I crossed the line that I had it,” McIntyre said.
The new record, 15:44, was a whole eight seconds faster than the previous record set by Eric Sivill in 2011. But despite the large time gap, McIntyre didn’t feel strained.
“I felt good. It felt very relaxed,” McIntyre said. “I’m excited for what’s to come.”
He didn’t celebrate much after the record, as he still only placed second in the actual race, and he opted instead for a tough workout session later the same day.
“I want to win state,” McIntyre said. “I’ve done everything I can to get ready and I have the next four weeks to get there as prepared as I can.”
Districts for Boys Cross Country are on Oct 22 at Parkway Central, Sectionals are on Oct 29 in Washington, MO, and State is on Nov 5 in Jefferson City.
