The boys cross country team finished just nine points behind Webster Groves in the Webster Groves warm-up on September 4, taking the second place trophy.
“It felt good to place second. I could tell Coach Adam Bergeron was happy and hopefully there is more to come this year,” sophomore Charlie McIntyre said.
McIntyre placed third overall at the meet, finishing the 3,000 meter race with a time of 9 minutes and 54 seconds. The first five runners on the team all placed in the top 20 places of the race, leading to their first trophy since 2012 (according to Coach Bergeron).
“I could’ve done better individually but as a team I’m very satisfied with placing second as a team,” senior Stephen He said. “It shows how strong we are being able to place second when some of us didn’t feel well. We were also missing junior Alex Rehr, which could’ve effected our performance, but we still ran well.”
Many of the runners on the team were not feeling well and had stomach aches, but that did not stop them from running to their best ability.
“Everyone hasn’t been feeling 100 percent lately but we fought through it and had a good meet,” McIntyre said.
