The boys varsity team is off to a hot start with a 3-0 record on the season up until this point. All 3 of the games have been vs. Parkway teams in the Gerald Linneman Tip-Off Classic.
In the first game of the season Central hosted Parkway North and won 67-36 led by senior Jarrett Cox-Bradley’s 22 points and Risaan McKenney’s 17.
Next was a matchup at Parkway South. This game Cox-Bradley scored a career high 37 points in a 70-62 win, with Risaan McKenney chipping in 15 to compliment Cox-Bradley in the win.
The last game of the tip-off tourney was a Friday night home game vs. Parkway West. Central took the unofficial Parkway crown by routing Parkway West 56-43 led by Cox-Bradley’s 27 points.
Cox-Bradley is happy about his individual performance and his team performance, for good reason.
“It feels pretty good,” Cox-Bradley said. “Scoring is nice, I like to score, my team expects it of me but what I am more happy about is that we are winning, everybody on the team has a good attitude. I’ll let the individual things come as they come but I don’t go out there and try to go get them.”
What has been the keys to victory thus far?
“We’ve been playing harder,” Cox-Bradley said. “We’ve got a lot of surprising help from guys like Adam Boonshaft. Konnie has playing really good. DeAndre (too). I feel like we are just playing good as a unit lately.”
Josh Konecek, who is known as Konnie, had a multiple steal game that lead to easy layups in the victory over Parkway West.
“During the game I had a lot of energy because of who we were facing and I was feeding off of the rest of the teams excitement which made it easier for me to work harder” Konecek said.
Games vs. Parkway West generally have a greater importance than others.
“Once the game was over it felt great to send the crowd home happy especially because it was against West.”
Cox-Bradley also enjoys winning rivalry games.
“It feels pretty good. Good braggin’ rights early especially winning against Parkway West” Cox-Bradley said.
