Suffering a 35 to 10 loss to rival school Parkway North on Friday, Sept. 4, the varsity football team has taken time to reflect on its performance, factors that led to the defeat, and how the players plan to bounce back this week.
“The outcome was disappointing,” junior quarterback Mitch Goldenberg said. “I was more upset with ourselves versus Parkway North.”
Goldenberg, who threw two interceptions late in the game, wasn’t the only discouraged Colt after the game. Senior Tyler Rosen had his sights set on a different result.
“I feel like we could have executed a little bit better, but we played hard and we were right there almost the whole game,” Rosen said.
The Colts were able to execute early in the second half, driving 80 yards downfield, resulting in a touchdown by junior wide receiver Darius Ramsey to cut the lead from 18 to 11.
Ramsey acknowledged that the team’s playing level wasn’t consistent and lacked energy throughout the game on defense, falling apart toward the end of the game.
“The second half was pretty bad,” Ramsey said. “We have to defensively play a full 48 minutes.”
While dissatisfied with themselves, the boys said they are not dwelling on the loss and plan to come back out stronger against Ladue on Friday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m.
“I feel like we’re definitely moving in the right direction compared to our first game and how we handled it this past Friday,” Rosen said. “We’re just going to prepare for Ladue and work hard in practice, and hopefully we can execute in the game. We have a chance to improve and get a few wins.”
