While most athletes do not have the opportunity to compete with their teammates after high school, seniors Augie Brooks and Alan Draper will continue their friendship on and off the field for the next few years.
“Me and Alan have been friends since sixth grade and we’ve been playing football since,” Brooks said. “It’s awesome to get to play with someone from Central. I don’t have to go to Culver-Stockton by myself and not knowing the players, I have someone to be with and have success with.”
The two ended up signing to the same school, but Draper may not have been identified by the coaches without the help and motivation of Brooks.
“Culver-Stockton started recruiting me a week or two (before signing day),” Draper said. “I sent them a highlight and an email when I was at Augie’s house and they called me and had me go visit there” said Draper.
On their visit together, the Culver-Stockton coaches kept the duo busy with multiple strength and conditioning tests to gauge the two’s athletic abilities.
“They had us run a 20 meter, do the broad jump, test our bench, and we took a tour around the school,” Draper said.
Culver-Stockton, located 2 hours away in Canton, MO, doesn’t have a winning football history. They won two games last year, and they have zero postseason appearances in their 106 seasons of football. Having one of the most successful season’s ever in Parkway Central history, the two players are accustomed to winning and hope to spark winning ways at Culver-Stockton.
“They were 2-9, and I am hoping that me and Alan will help change that” Brooks said. “We have a bunch of high level recruits coming in, and I’m hoping all of us in this class will help us make a postseason appearance.”
