Although they were on winter break, the girls basketball team had to stay on their game for the MICDS tournament. The games ran from December 26th through January 3rd, and the Colts placed fourth out of eight teams.
“The tournament was a huge turning point for us,” senior Shannon Long said. “I think because there is so much talent on our team, even though we didn’t do as well as we wanted, it helped us realize what we need to improve on.”
The team went on to face the Kirkwood Pioneers on January 10th, narrowly losing but feeling much more satisfied with their performance.
“Our practices have been extremely focused,” Long said. “We played with a lot of intensity against Kirkwood.”
Long also commended seniors Christie Bergesch and Taylor Kennedy for their work ethic and dedication to making the team better.
“[Bergesch and Kennedy] are great leaders on the team because you will never hear them complain and they work hard all the time,” Long said.
Despite having had some recent loses, the team is confident that they can “bounce back” before the season comes to an end in March.
“I think we are a team to keep your eye on,” Long said. “We will definitely fall into place down the road in the season.”
